This is my little sister…cute…still looks like she’s fourteen …claims she can cook and one of the biggest punks I know …love her to pieces.
My sister asked for a 3 tiered fondant covered cake. No crazy designs, just keep it simple.
So I started practicing…on the cake. To me the cake itself is the most important part.
Now it was time to try some frosting. My sister loves strawberry cake, so I made a strawberry buttercream frosting using frozen strawberry’s.
The frosting came out great. It had a great consistency, smooth, fluffy and had a nice strawberry flavor.
Before I decided to cut into one of my test cakes, I went ahead and frosted my smaller cake with the strawberry buttercream and attempted to cover it with some store bought fondant…just to see how this was going to work.
So I rolled out the fondant…
Then I tried to apply it to the cake…what the hell?
Really? This crap costs me twenty dollars…really? The picture above is the end result of what happened after I tried to apply this fondant onto a 6 inch four layer round cake. The fondant wrinkled at the bottom, I thought I was going to crush my cake…it was just out of control.
There is nothing easy about applying fondant. But I’m not going to give up that easily, just going to have to practice that much more and not rush it.
Until my next post about this wedding cake project, if you have made a fondant covered cake, can you leave a home-girl some advice? maybe some encouraging words? Cause I have a feeling me and fondant are not going to get along at all.
Oh the things big sisters will do…
