Don’t be jealous…don’t hate! I’m sure my tone will change when I hit thirty, until then I’m going to enjoy this last year of my twenties. Over the weekend I celebrated my 29th birthday! It was a great day indeed.
The day before I went to the library and came across this book Organic and Chic. I almost didn’t check it out, cause anything that has to do with organic food is pretty much no good to me. I don’t mean that in a bad way, its just we don’t have many places where I live that sell quality organic ingredients and the places that do…are not in my budget.
Well to make this story a little shorter, I went ahead and checked out the book. I figured I could use the same ingredients in my house that were not organic if I had decided to make something from this book. Well the night of my b-day I decided to make ANOTHER cake from scratch for myself. I know…I didn’t wait that long since my last oops…but I felt like I really needed to try again. So I went with Vanilla Bean Cake (will post my own version of this recipe soon).
I followed the recipe to a tee…there was no half-steppin’. I said to myself, ”If I jack up this cake…this would be the end of my cake baking!” I wasn’t even going to blog about making cakes for a long time…a very long time. Might even turn back to using good old Duncan Hines.
Then this happened 20 minutes later…
Hallelujah! The angels from above heard the crazy prayers in my head and sprinkled some “Holy baking dust” into my oven and out came two perfect 8 inch round cakes! I couldn’t believe it! I was in shock… the fact that I didn’t use organic ingredients and my cake still came out looking edible was beyond me.
So I went ahead and made Vanilla whipped cream frosting (also in the book) and a Lemon Curd filling to put in the middle of my cake. Once I assembled my cake, slapped some frosting on it and decorated it with sprinkles…it was time to taste.
Verdict…Delicious! It was super moist the flavors were just right and the frosting was not too sweet. This was definitely the best ending to my birthday.
YOU GO GURL!!! I know how hard baking a cake is and from scratch no less. Happy Birthday!!!! 30s aren’t that bad, you’ll rock it when it comes!
Sweet!! That looks delightful lady! Happy B day btw! =*
Thanks Apryl! I love the comments you’ve been leaving 😉
