There is one thing I can’t stand during the winters here in VA and that’s snow! Sure its pretty to look at, but we’ve been having these snow storms pretty often and being snowed in…is not my cup of tea.
This Sunday is my youngest son’s birthday, he will be turning one! Brings a tear to my eye when I say that…One…my little baby is turning one. He even started walking…before you now it he will be running from me.
So last night I said to myself I’m going to make a cake from scratch for my baby. We had to cancel his B-Day party due to this snow storm and I thought it would be the nicest thing to do for him. I had been looking through my cookbooks all day trying to find the easiest cake recipe to try and came across Buttermilk Cake from Flo Braker’s Baking for All Occasions. It looked pretty fool proof and it didn’t seem to take long to make.
So I made the cake as directed in the book. Thought I did it correctly. The batter tasted really good and I was really excited. So 45 minutes later my cake looked like this:
The first thought that came to mind was WTH…really what the heck did I do wrong? It wasn’t even edible. It smelled so good, but the taste and texture was all kinds of wrong. This is the kind of cake you make as a prank for your friends birthday. I was so upset, felt really discouraged…I wasted my eggs…my buttermilk…my time on this Mess! Ridiculous!
Looking over the recipe again. I might have added a little to much butter. But I don’t know and at this point… don’t care. Not even a hug could have helped me after that went down.
So I”m going to try another recipe today. I hope all goes well. Trying to motivate myself, but I have doubts…BIG DOUBTS.
If you have baked a cake from scratch and had success… could you give me some tips? Maybe share a recipe? I’ve heard that cakes are a very tricky thing to make.
